Why I’m returning for a second time to work in China - by Serge M.

b2ap3_thumbnail_image001_20141030-071730_1.jpg
I live in Birmingham, United Kingdom but I grew up in Brazzaville, which is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of the Congo. It is a small country in central Africa with a population of 3.5 million. Something unique about where I grew up is that my dad used to take me and my brothers fishing every Sunday. So until now, fishing has been my second passion after football and I have always supported Arsenal Football Club since I was a kid. But I moved to Shanghai in 1995 when I was 23 years old to pursue my post-graduate studies, so it's been over 19 years since I left Africa. Brazzaville is a big city with 800,000 inhabitants and I still have good friends and good memories there. I am 42 years old and I love travelling. I have been to many countries of the world. Actually,...

b2ap3_thumbnail_image002_20141018-091506_1.png
I am from LeMars, Iowa, USA. While growing up, I was involved in many organizations such as Boy Scouts and 4-H. I am currently 22 years old and have had the opportunity to travel many places. Over the last 4 years, I completed college at Iowa State University with a major in Finance and Accounting. I will be interning at a network finance company in Beijing . My job description includes investor relations, customer service, and supporting the business development and sales teams. I hope to expand my professional network through this internship and learn more about financial markets in China. I am very interested in learning the cultural differences in financial positions in the US and China. Working in China has interested me for the last few years. China is a diverse landscape and its economy has expanded quickly. I do not have many contacts in China and hope...

Jared, a former U.S. Marine Now Interning in China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image002_20140617-042701_1.jpg
Jared, a former U.S. Marine, shares insight into his background and why he's moving to China to do his internship . "I am from a small town in Eastern Washington in the USA. Although other places in the country do the same, we are unique because we grow wheat, which has been marketed to the entire world. Its primary use is for noodles, I believe. I am in my mid-thirties, and I would say I’ve had many interesting experiences. One that’s worth sharing is when I went skydiving, a dozen years ago. I had to sign a bunch of forms and releases that said the company was not responsible, no matter what happened. I went tandem with an instructor, and we jumped from 15,000 ft. We lost 10,000 feet of altitude in 70 seconds (the worst part was the initial drop), then another 5-10 minutes for the remaining 5,000 feet....

Ah, don't we all wish our hometowns were famous for beaches! Take a look at what new Gi2C intern, Matt Wills is looking forward to when he begins his internship in Beijing .   Tell us a little about your background. I was born in Australia, but grew up mostly in Auckland, New Zealand. It is a very multi-cultural city with a large Chinese population and is famous for its beaches and harbor. I'm currently 35 years old and studied Psychology and Philosophy at uni, and then later Graphic Design  at an online college. What do you know about your internship? It will be in the design department of a Beijing -based company. So far, I don't know what I'll be doing exactly. I was not given a very clear list of duties and have had very little contact with the company itself. I was given some basic info from...
