Wish list: Applying from Vietnam to win a free China internship!

Ngoc Khanh from Vietnam applied for China internship with Gi2C
I graduated from The Faculty of Economics, Nong Lam University (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting in 2011, and have recently graduated from Master of Science in Finance of Bangor University, North Wales, The United Kingdom. I especially have interest in International Financial Markets, Investment Strategy and Portfolio Management, Financial Engineering and Modelling, and Financial Analysis . After completing the final step of my master's degree, while most of friends congratulated me on this, a friend told me that it has not finished yet; it is the beginning of the new journey – the most difficult stage of life – to find a job. Due to the fact that the global economy has been growing rapidly, the required calibre of human resource becomes higher. The requirements tend to be more severe, as some companies reduce their workforce, while some new companies entering the market want to...

Wish list: Applying from the UK to win an internship in China!

applying from UK for an internship in China
Dear Sir/Madam, An opportunity to work in mainland China within the finance industry;  specifically the investment banking sector as a quantitative analyst would as Getin2China explained so eloquently “will put my international career on steroids”. I am currently studying at the University of York, UK where I am in my second year of an undergraduate masters degree in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics. As you may know studying Mathematical Science or Economics at a top 10 institution in the bare minimum required for one to enter investment banking (in any country) as an analyst or quantitative analyst. It is clear I need networks and international experience to compete in a global market like the one which we are in today. An internship in China is incomparable to any other international internship. The amount of knowledge one can attain coupled with the surreal experiences will give me an insight into how international...

Wish list: Jeannette - Applying for a free China Internship!

My name is Jeannette and I have learned what it takes to have ambition.  I knew at a young age I never wanted to go to college because at eleven years old my mom got injured at work and it quickly down spiraled into something much worse.  Within a few short months she developed reflex sympathetic dystrophy (RSD), a complicated nerve disorder that causes pain and slow deterioration of the body. We also never foresaw the coupling diseases that would add on over the years. I grew up so fast and I pushed away people because I no longer was able to connect on a fun and interesting level with people my age. So I put on a façade and took on a job to try to help my family. We fought and watched my mother go in and out of hospitals and knock on deaths door a few too many...

Wish list: Applying from America to Win a Free China Internship!

Natalie
“So, what do you do?” If I had a nickel for every time someone asked me that, I might be as rich as Bill Gates. For the past few years, my response has been the same: “I am a full-time student.” Not a very exciting response, is it? Now more than ever, there is a pressure for the younger generation to go to an accredited university to receive a higher education. But what happens after we graduate? This is the question that can be difficult for us to answer, especially with how hard it is for us to claim the job of our dreams – or any job for that matter. It is like the question we were asked in kindergarten: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” My answer then was a veterinarian. I have always had a love for animals, so I read every book...

Wish list: Applying from Spain to Win a Free China Internship!

Isabel
Can an internship in China change your future career? Here's Isabel's answer: Well, it’s like winning a lottery ticket, isn’t it? The impact of an internship nowadays on a curriculum vitae is probably as important as having had some experience in the field you want to work. Three, six or nine months of internship in a company can really make a difference on your future career. And of course, economic factors have an impotant role in this situation, the current financial recession has favoured the existence of a ‘gap’ between academic and professional lives. So by offering internships in one of the countries with one of the most prosperous and powerful economies, you are filling that ‘gap’ that the vast majority of people currently find after finishing their studies. To be honest, I’m not looking for a job after the internship , my priority at the moment is to try something...

Wish list: Applying from the Philippines to win a free china internship!

Sandra a prospect intern in China with Gi2C
An internship can change your life and affect your career. Choices, a simple yet powerful word that can make ordinary things great… one word, yet life changing. It can transform life according to what you desire. If we sum up everything, life is all about choices. My name is Sandra and I choose to change my life.   As I look back, I can still see the scholar student of Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology who was striving hard enough to finish her college degree that can create her own first door to success. She has a lot of hopes and dreams in life. She enjoys helping and loves adventure. She will always be that optimistic woman under a dark cloud. She has a very proud mother and a very supportive social worker father. No matter how difficult life can be, she chose to accept the scholarship and managed...

Intern Update: Anna Setterberg

Anna Setterberg's internship in Beijing with Getin2China
Anna Setterberg learned a thing or two about working in China during her internship in Beijing . “ The business environment in China is fast moving. You start out with one team, and at the end of your internship, you leave a completely different one.” Anna finished her three-month internship at Alain Charles Asia Publishing Ltd , where she worked on the latest edition of the China Business Handbook , an indispensable guide for anyone seeking to do business in the Middle Kingdom. She began her internship editing the handbook, “but my main task ended up being research.” Like in any foreign work environment, Anna said there were challenges, which included colleagues who did not speak English, limited and slow Internet access and little contact with her supervisor. “My boss was away for 2/3 of my time at the company. Our communication was therefore restricted to Skype chats, and as...

We all have them. Here are some tips for overcoming career fear. 1. Name It Name the fear. Here’s a list of the common sources of fear: Rejection Failure High expectations Missed opportunities The what ifs Change (new town, travel, long commute, new boss) The last point is of particular concern if you're going abroad for work or an internship program in China or elsewhere. Many folks refuse to consider or turn down an opportunity abroad, particularly in a country with a vastly different culture, because the fear of change or difference is too overwhelming or even frightening. Face up to your fear. Time abroad - whether as a student or for work - is perhaps the best thing...
