QY’s Gi2C Internship

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1.jpg
I am from Shenzhen in the south of China.  It is a young coastal city full of people coming from different places. I guess growing up in a culturally diversified place teaches you how to understand differences. People are more open in this type of environment and I am glad that I grew up with that kind of influence around me. I am 23 years old and the most interesting thing I’ve done so far in my life is travelling and studying in different places around the world. I’ve been able to see different cultures and to complete my academics. This international experience has always been very exciting to me. I was most recently studying in Australia and majoring in economics and finance. The reason why I chose this area was because, these days, they are hot topics and I did not know much about them.  I am interested in...

Amy From Australia Interns in the Real Estate and Investment Industry

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150209-082829_1.png
I am from Adelaide, South Australia. Adelaide is a small city in Australia and is renowned as: ‘The Festival City’ for the many festivals and events that are held there and ‘The City of Churches’ for the large array of old, new and in between churches to celebrate the multicultural society.  I am 25 and have just spent 6.5 weeks backpacking throughout Europe and the UK. My highlight was visiting Reykjavik, Iceland which allowed me the chance to ride a five gaited Icelandic purebred horse (also my first time on a horse), climb ice glaciers and experience one of the most spectacular places on earth. I have completed a double business degree of a Bachelor of Management Marketing and a Bachelor of Tourism and Event Management. In my 3.5 year Gap year between High School and University, I worked as Wedding Coordinator at a country club, this gave me a...

Meet Gherardo! New Gi2C Finance Intern from Italy.

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1.png
Gherardo grew up in a small Italian town with a huge reputation. Cortina d’Ampezzo , which is known for its beautiful mountains, is also touted for being a “winter sports mecca”. As a result, 23-year-old Gherardo loves to ski and mountain bike among other active winter and summer sports. Sadly, China is not known for being a ski destination so Gherardo will have to give up his favorite activity during his internship. However, China is infamous for other activities such as ping-pong so now might just be the perfect time to learn some new sports! He studied business and economics because of the large number of opportunities that this major provides. Fluent in Italian and English, Gherardo is also learning German. However, he probably won’t be adding in Mandarin at this point in time as learning more than one language at once is quite confusing.  Many China interns from around...

Why I’m returning for a second time to work in China - by Serge M.

b2ap3_thumbnail_image001_20141030-071730_1.jpg
I live in Birmingham, United Kingdom but I grew up in Brazzaville, which is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of the Congo. It is a small country in central Africa with a population of 3.5 million. Something unique about where I grew up is that my dad used to take me and my brothers fishing every Sunday. So until now, fishing has been my second passion after football and I have always supported Arsenal Football Club since I was a kid. But I moved to Shanghai in 1995 when I was 23 years old to pursue my post-graduate studies, so it's been over 19 years since I left Africa. Brazzaville is a big city with 800,000 inhabitants and I still have good friends and good memories there. I am 42 years old and I love travelling. I have been to many countries of the world. Actually,...

Twenty-two year old Shauni is from a small town in the southern part of the Netherlands, which she told us was “a great place to grow up!” However, she has had the travel bug since college when she studied Science of Tourism, which she chose because traveling is such a big passion of hers. Shauni said “It would be great if I could make this hobby [of traveling] part of my profession! One of the most exciting things I’ve done in my life was an international field project in Thailand. I did research about sustainability in the dive industry for my study.” Shauni also volunteered in Swaziland. With already having such exciting experiences under her belt, no wonder Shauni was looking forward to her next new opportunity abroad! Shauni chose to do her Gi2C internship  with a Beijing travel company, which markets US destinations to Chinese travelers. A job that...

Why China for a Business Internship?

b2ap3_thumbnail_image001_20141015-134152_1.jpg
I am 25 years old from San Francisco, California. Something unique about the growing up in San Francisco is that I was constantly surrounded by people from many different cultures. This helped me get used to cultures different from my own. Being a youth leader at my church since the age of 17 helped me learn other useful business skills such as patience and how to manage groups of people. I studied at San Francisco State University and graduated from there with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business. I chose this area because learning about different cultures and how to work in different countries was an idea that excited me. I will be interning at an international finance company located in Beijing. I will be working in sales, developing and communicating with people in the US. We will also assist customers through phone, email or...

b2ap3_thumbnail_image001_20140929-130436_1.jpg
Gavin R. was born in a small town in Northern Ireland called Holywood. He just so happen to go to primary and secondary school with the world’s number one golfer, Rory McIlroy, so his claim to fame is playing golf on the same course as Rory! Tell us a little about yourself, Gavin. “I am 21 years old and recently I took part in a charity hitchhike with my university from Durham in the North of England to Amsterdam in Holland. I was in a team of three and we managed to hitch hike in people’s cars the whole way there for free in less than 30 hours. We were the quickest team and one of the only teams to spend no money on travel so it was a huge success and a lot of fun. I am currently studying Economics in the UK. I am entering my third and...

My China Internship Experience - Christian W.

b2ap3_thumbnail_Christian-W.jpg
Christian has just completed his two-month Gi2C internship in the communications industry. His job was to assist in the production of design and branding for the company and clients. One thing about his internship that he was surprised by was the amount of responsibility he was given from the onset. However, this trust kept him motivated to succeed and to increase his professionalism. During his internship, Christian learned how to harness his creativity and passion and his organizational ability to create a powerful approach of satisfying both clients needs and time constraints. Christian said, “While working in a Chinese environment, I learned that the eastern approach to design must be understood before incorporating western styles of design.” His biggest challenge during the internship was a technical one. “As I am a Macbook user with my main input and output being Adobe software, PPT was something I always dreaded and had...

China Intern Update: Hira Iqbal

Gi2C intern in Shanghai, China - Hira
Chinese people are very welcoming and very helpful, I have had no trouble when it came to getting help for anything, if I was lost I got help from any young Chinese person. Most all young Chinese can speak a little bit of English so that's great, especially in Shanghai . My co-workers are very welcoming and they took me around the city on my first week. I have seen pictures and read how advance Shanghai has become but actually being here is a totally different feeling. The public transportation system (metro and buses) have TV's installed and you can use your phones underground. It is very cold in public areas and even inside offices so sometimes you have to wear your coats or jackets while working. My home town is Toronto one of the busiest cities in Canada but if you were to travel via public transportation for 1...

Intern Testimonial: Alex Roberts

Alex Roberts and his China internship program with Getin2China
For Alex Roberts , he decided to do an  internship in China  for one reason: “To do something outside the box.” “Not being able to find a job I enjoyed in London after graduation I decided to go for it. Also having never lived abroad I wanted to experience a different environment. And Beijing certainly is that !” Beijing , he says, certainly didn’t fit the notion he previously had of the city. “I was sort of expecting to see squatting toilets and run down old buildings everywhere, true communist style. Yet Beijing is the opposite, in many ways more modern than what I was used to in London .” If you follow our blog regularly, you’ll recall that Alex in July debated with the deputy chairman of the People’s Bank of China over the country’s currency, the Renminbi. “I learned about one of the key issues affecting China and the...
