Internship Placement: Courtney (Brisbane, Australia)

Last month we accompanied one of our interns to an interview with a potential internship placement company. We had some time before the scheduled meeting and sat down for a cup of coffee and a last minute briefing. The Intern: Courtney is an Australian from Brisbane. She is already well acquainted with the city, as she arrived in Beijing in February to take part in a summer program at Beijing Language and Culture University. That program has just finished, and she is looking for something to do before returning back home for Christmas. She told us that she might come back to China after that, because she wants to learn more Chinese or possibly find a job. Courtney is interested in communication and public relations and that is what she studied back in Australia. Also the mining industry is something she finds fascinating. She hopes to learn a lot and to have...

Getin2China and Southern Methodist University Partnership: New Ways to Experience China

Originally published in February, 2011 In early 2011, Get in2 China Group established a partnership with Southern Methodist University (SMU), located in Dallas, Texas, USA. Through this partnership, 20 students from SMU were able to visit China while on their summer break. Participating in a 3-week long program, the students had the opportunity to get both professional and cultural experience while participating in an internship with a company in Beijing. For most of the students this was their first time in China and undoubtedly one of the most unique experiences they ever had. According to the students themselves, the China Internship Program benefited them in several different ways. First, from the professional point of view, working for a Chinese company enabled them to learn first-hand about the peculiarities of doing business in China. In the light of China’s rapid economic growth and its increasing role in global affairs this knowledge will...

Get in2 China Opens Shanghai Office

In mid-July, Get in2 China Group cut the ribbon and officially opened the doors of our new Shanghai office. Over the past couple of years, we have been growing our contacts and business network in China's financial center, working hard to prepare for this moment. As not only China's financial capital, but also a global hub of business and commerce, Shanghai offers a wealth of meaningful internship opportunities for hard working students and graduates. If Shanghai's Pudong Skyline isn't a testament to progress and the result of ambition, we don't know what is! The new office is located in Shanghai's Pudong District, a short walk from the Longyang Road Metro Station. Longyang is known for being the arrival point of the famously fast mag-lev train that shuttles to and from the Pudong Airport. With a top operational speed of 431 kilometers per hour, the magnetic levitation train travels faster than any...

Internship Placements: Sebastian Armstrong (Winchester, UK)

Sebastian Armstrong had only been in Beijing for just over 24 hours when he arrived at the Get in2 China office for his internship placement. The towering 21-year old from Winchester, UK was battling jet-lag, fatigue, and the general sense of confusion that accompanies all interns first few days in this chaotic city. Still, he looked ready to go. As a Masters Student pursuing an advanced degree in Maths from a little University called Cambridge (you may have heard of it), Sebastian's impressive credentials allowed him to participate in a highly focused technical internship in the Finance and Investment fields. When asked to describe his impression of Beijing in one word as we shuffled into an overcrowded subway car en route to meet with the company he would be placed in, Sebastian responded, "vibrant." When asked what he ate for dinner last night - his first night in Beijing - Sebastian...

Internship Placement: PR/Marketing Internships in China

Career Opportunities Tailored For 'The Facebook Generation' Are you, like most of our generation, constantly connected? Do you find it difficult to pull yourself away from the Internet? Imagine Facebooking, Twittering, sending instant messages and updating statuses and pages while gaining working experience and making your CV different from that of the others. It sounds too good to be true but this is the kind of experience you could expect if you choose to intern in China's PR, marketing or advertising industries.  China's public relations and marketing industries have already stepped into new era - a digital era filled with social media and microblogs. People now shape their perceptions of the world around them increasingly via digital communication. Internship Placement: Art Gallery Intern in Beijing's 798

Exactly how vibrant is China's emerging art scene? To answer this question, head to 798 Art District in Beijing. 798 is Beijing's - and probably all of China’s - most famous art district. There are a myriad of art galleries located there ranging from traditional Chinese fine art to contemporary and avant garde, from Russian exhibitions of forest scenery to French reproductions of some of the Louvre’s most prominent masterpieces. The growing art district exhibits more than just small galleries and large installations, it exhibits the burgeoning interest of Chinese people in admiring (and acquiring) works of art. So for those looking to pursue their passion and get involved in the art industry, China offers access to the world's largest consumer base and presents significant opportunities to those with the desire to succeed. Having at least a short experience working in an art gallery or workshop in China will help interns understand how the local...

Intern Advice: 7 Tips For A Successful Internship In China

At our most recent Intern Orientation on June 7, our Business Development Manager, Ben Cao, applauded new interns on having the courage and vision to choose China as their internship destination.  As the world's most populous nation and second largest economy - an economy which is still growing at rates which most developed nations could only dream of achieving - China presents a significant career building opportunity for those willing to put the time and effort into understanding the culture and learning the language. When looking to really succeed in an internship with a Chinese company, there are many more considerations than just simply showing up and doing good work.  And even though it may not always seem like it, your Chinese supervisor is paying attention to the details and constantly judging your performance. With this in mind, in addition to several years of working experience with HSBC Bank in China, Ben...

Get in2 China: June Intern Orientation

On June 8, 2012, Get in2 China welcomed a fresh batch of wide-eyed interns into our Dongzhimen office in Beijing for their Internship Orientation Meeting. About twelve interns joined us on that Friday afternoon, some of them having arrived in China only a few hours earlier! This month we are fortunate enough to provide placement for interns from countries such as the U.S., Spain, Ukraine, England, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, and Sweden.  We gathered the group in a conference room for a meet and greet as well as a brief introduction to China. Vivi, our Internship Program Coordinatior, started things off by presenting a number of facts about Beijing, highlighting major attractions and statistics.  Did you know that Beijing has a population of more than 19.6 million people?  That's more than twice the size of the population in New York City. After Vivi provided the historical and cultural introduction to...
