Gi2C Intern Ying’s PR Internship in China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150818-114934_1.jpeg I was born in Fujian, China, grew up there until age 17, and then I moved to New York City, US. I think the unique part of New York, for me, is the diversity and open-minded mentality. Since there is a large population of people from all over the world that are living in the city, I can feel a cultural mixing everywhere, and people easily accept other cultures. I was always involved in many city events, such as marathons, volunteering, various festivals, and no matter where I went, I could always find out something new about other cultures. I’m currently 24. I enjoy volunteering very much. I learn, care and share through volunteering. This year from February to May, I participated in an environmental sustainability program, and I gained knowledge about recycling, organic farming and forest protection. I hope I could have more time to continuously volunteer during my...

New Gi2C Intern: Tyler’s China Internship in Business Development

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150810-093034_1.jpeg I was born in Arnaudville, Louisiana, which is a small southern town of about one thousand people near the bottom of the United States.  Starting at age 10, I was raised by my grandmother as well as my aunt and uncle. Living out in the rural part of town allowed me to grow up appreciating the peacefulness of the countryside including the beauty of nature. I just had my birthday and am 23 years old. One of the cooler experiences I’ve had was being able to go and walk up on the Skywalk which overlooks the Grand Canyon. A two-inch thick piece of glass is all that keeps you from a couple thousand feet fall to the river below. That first step was one of the more exhilarating moments of my life.  From 2011-2012, I studied linguistics with an emphasis in Mandarin Chinese. I chose this area because I felt...

Fajr’s Gi2C Internship in China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150728-091445_1.jpeg I am from Kerala, India. It is in the southern part of India near the Arabian Sea. My hometown is known for tourism and called “God’s own country”. I went to school in a Christian missionary school, which was 1.5 hours away from my home. However, it was a very supportive school and I was able to participate in numerous science fairs, and even won some of them. My childhood memories were always filled with beautiful places that I used to visit and also spending time working on science fair projects. I am 22 now. In the past 4 years after starting my architecture studies, I was able to design a few buildings on my own. I travel a lot and have been to all the states in India. Some of my trips even lasted 20-30 days. I did my bachelors degree in architecture at a university in Chennai. Architecture...

Gi2C Intern Zuhaib’s China Architecture Internship

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150721-112112_1.jpeg I am from Huddersfield Town in the Yorkshire & Humberside region of the United Kingdom. What makes Huddersfield so unique is that it is the largest town in the UK; it is a small town where everyone is united and kind to one another. Even though it is a small town, you can find something that fascinates you every day. I am 20 years old and so far there have been many exciting things that I have done in my life but the top of the list would have to be fighting cancer and winning. Currently, I have completed my second year of Architecture/Architecture International. In school, I was always passionate about art and architecture and I have always excelled in the field of art. I was the first in West Yorkshire and possibly the UK to be awarded the Young Creative Entrepreneur title with my own art business. Studying...

I studied in the US and UK and have my MBA.      What’s something interesting you've done during your life so far? I have lived on three continents.   Which type of company will you be interning at? What are their main services/products? I will be interning at a consulting company that offers market intelligence services.    What do you know so far about the kind of work you'll be doing? So far, I know that I will be primarily conducting market research among other things.   What are you hoping to get out of your internship? I hope to get enough experience in order for me to switch careers.   Why did you decide to do an internship in China of all...

Gi2C China Internship Review: Meet Marketing Intern Karen

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150629-130832_1.jpeg I’m from Auckland, New Zealand. A unique fact about New Zealand is that we have more sheep than people – about 2 per person. I’m 20 years old and something fun I’ve done so far in my life is visit Hobbiton and while I was there, all my friends said I was home (because I’m not the tallest person in the world). I studied in the USA and was an Economics & Music major because both areas interested me. Here in China, I will be a marketing intern at a software company that focuses on cloud services. During my time in China, I hope to build connections, gain experience and become more familiar with Chinese culture and how foreigners work in China. I chose to intern in China because I’ve interned in many different cities in the USA. However, I wanted to come back to China where I’m originally from...

Gi2C Internship Review: Amy’s Interior Design Internship in China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150623-111751_1.jpeg I grew up in Australia, specifically Adelaide which is the wine capital of Australia. One unique thing about Australia is that our holiday season (Xmas and New Year) is always the hottest time of year. I’m currently 26 and something fun I’ve done so far in my life is to be part of the 2012 Olympics in London. I majored in Interior Decoration and Design in school. I chose that degree because I wanted to do something I enjoy and get paid for it. I’m excited to work for a firm that I can learn from and grow with – a firm interested in design and the people they design for. For my China internship, the company I am interning at is focused on retail design. I will be primarily drawing and handling paperwork. What I want most out of my internship is to learn and to have fun. I...

To Gi2C: This program has changed my life forever.

b2ap3_thumbnail_10290626_10203906417241716_6394170953806264268_n.jpg To the Chinese Workforce: I have never worked so hard with such tight deadlines in my life. Because of you, I have a different standard for working when I come back to America. I am not at all saying that Americans are lazy, I am just saying that we do not work as hard/much nor get paid as little.   To the other foreigners in China: Thank you for making the culture shock a bit easier. I have such a sense of joy being around people of different nationalities. I have gained culture from you all as well. Just to name a few of my favorites, Bahar (Turkey), Racheal (England) , Micheal (American), Vitaly (Ukraininan and I hate you still haha), Winnie (Chinese), Mitch (Austrailian), Matt (English), Victor (Spanish) and AnnaBelle (Dutch) these plus the many more that I have met and became the best of friends the same night....

Jana’s Gi2C Internship in Shanghai, China

b2ap3_thumbnail_jana00.jpgMy hometown is Bratislava, Slovakia. Bratislava is the capital of a small country in the middle of Europe with rich history and customs. People there are friendly and caring. I’m 25 and have been involved in sports my whole life. I played basketball for 10 years and also took karate. I’m now playing a sport called floorball. I studied international finance management in Slovakia and Germany. I just graduated in February of this year. I chose to study this area because I wanted to know about finance and management and this major was a great opportunity to study both. My Gi2C arranged China internship is working for a company that focuses on finance, tax, accounting, financial counseling and auditing. The company’s service portfolio is huge, but I should be concentrating on primarily taxes and accounting. I’m looking forward to learning other areas during my internship as well. I want to get...

Packing for your China Internship

b2ap3_thumbnail_travel-luggage-packing-tips-03HSS.jpg China is a shopper’s paradise in terms of cheap pricing overall, but some basic necessities that you use back home may be unnecessarily expensive or impossible to find in the Middle Kingdom. If you’re on your way to China in the near future, don’t forget these items: 1. First aid Pack prescriptions and basic medicine such as aspirin, stomach medicine, anti-histamines, vitamins and other over-the-counter remedies. There are lots of pharmacies in China but almost none of them carry products in English or have staff who speak English. Stores like Watsons might have some vitamins and other imported items, but they’ll be super expensive.   2. Contact lenses, solution and extra eyeglasses You should be able to find these items in China eventually, but the product details may be unreadable in Chinese and you don’t want to take any chances of damaging the window to your soul.   3. Hair...

New Gi2C Intern, Henry, begins his China internship

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150516-091756_1.jpeg I am from York in the north of England. York is unusual in the UK because it is incredibly ancient. It is of strategic importance because it is halfway between London and Scotland. It has a castle with complete walls all the way around the city that are 2000 years old. I’m 24 years old and something cool I have done in my life so far is to live in South Africa and train elephants. I went to school in London and studied microbiology and business management. Science is fascinating to me as I’m a very curious person. I will be interning at a finance company that focuses on wealth management. I excited to learn more about Asia business culture. China was my go-to internship destination because it is a superpower and will become even more relevant. China is big and busy. That’s the best way to describe it. I...

Gi2C Reviews: Chira’s China Internship at a Startup

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150410-204820_1.jpeg I’m originally from Nashville, TN USA. I grew up in Music City USA, so I was spoiled by living in a city full of musicians. Half of my friends were somehow involved with music. In terms of my background, I’m 32 and decided I wanted to get some international experience. I’ve had jobs in the design, tech, and marketing fields. So far, going to China beats anything I’ve done yet but some interesting things I’ve done in my life is traveling abroad and studying Italian in Italy. In school, I studied Advertising and Graphic Design. I have two degrees:  B.S Communications and B.F.A Graphic Design. I enjoy the mix between creative work, research, and marketing. I like to keep my interests broad. I will be interning with a US-based startup company that has an office in Beijing. They build apps and in-apps designed to market companies from the US to...
