b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150701-055117_1.jpeg Welcome to China, Luke! Tell us a bit about your background. I’m from Audubon, Iowa, USA. I grew up on a farm in rural Western Iowa. I studied in the US and UK and have my MBA.      What’s something interesting you've done during your life so far? I have lived on three continents.   Which type of company will you be interning at? What are their main services/products? I will be interning at a consulting company that offers market intelligence services.    What do you know so far about the kind of work you'll be doing? So far, I know that I will be primarily conducting market research among other things.   What are you hoping to get out of your internship? I hope to get enough experience in order for me to switch careers.   Why did you decide to do an internship in China of all...

Gi2C Internship Review: Amy’s Interior Design Internship in China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150623-111751_1.jpeg I grew up in Australia, specifically Adelaide which is the wine capital of Australia. One unique thing about Australia is that our holiday season (Xmas and New Year) is always the hottest time of year. I’m currently 26 and something fun I’ve done so far in my life is to be part of the 2012 Olympics in London. I majored in Interior Decoration and Design in school. I chose that degree because I wanted to do something I enjoy and get paid for it. I’m excited to work for a firm that I can learn from and grow with – a firm interested in design and the people they design for. For my China internship, the company I am interning at is focused on retail design. I will be primarily drawing and handling paperwork. What I want most out of my internship is to learn and to have fun. I...

Gi2C Review: New Intern Vittorio begins his Gi2C China Internship

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150611-101935_1.jpeg Born in Avellino, Italy, I moved to Scotland at the age of 19 after completing high school to pursue my ambition of becoming proficient in the English language while living in a country whose history and heritage had always fascinated me. Gi2C comment: Congrats on achieving your goal, Vittorio! Your English is excellent. I am 24 years old and a few years ago, I met a group of people working for a charity that operates in Cuzco. I became involved in their activities, mainly producing crafts to be sold in markets in Italy, the revenues of which went to children in rural areas of the Peruvian Andes.  I then decided to travel to Peru and I was able to continue my charity work once I got to Cuzco, where I taught English to schoolchildren every afternoon for a month. Living in Aberdeen, the oil capital of Europe and being exposed...

New Gi2C Intern, Henry, begins his China internship

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150516-091756_1.jpeg I am from York in the north of England. York is unusual in the UK because it is incredibly ancient. It is of strategic importance because it is halfway between London and Scotland. It has a castle with complete walls all the way around the city that are 2000 years old. I’m 24 years old and something cool I have done in my life so far is to live in South Africa and train elephants. I went to school in London and studied microbiology and business management. Science is fascinating to me as I’m a very curious person. I will be interning at a finance company that focuses on wealth management. I excited to learn more about Asia business culture. China was my go-to internship destination because it is a superpower and will become even more relevant. China is big and busy. That’s the best way to describe it. I...

Rafael from Brazil about his Gi2C Internship

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150512-055104_1.jpeg I’m from Belo Horizonte, Brazil.  One unique thing about Brazil is the great weather during the entire year and also the kind way that people treat each other, especially foreigners.  I’m 22 and have lived in Canada during high school and France for one semester during university. I studied International Affairs in Brazil and chose this area due to my huge interest in other cultures and passion to go abroad. I will be interning at a pharmaceutical company which operates mostly in developing countries. Their main products are vaccines and medicines.  They are currently looking for partners around the world and working with local governments. I will be focused on export documentation and international marketing tasks such as finding new markets and making sure the products are in accordance with local laws.  My goal for this internship is to gain more experience in international trade and increase my network and...

New Gi2C Intern Review: Jendrik’s China Internship in Finance

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150501-093626_1.jpeg I´m from Ellwangen, a city next to Stuttgart, the capital city of Baden-Württemberg. Ellwangen is located in one federal state in the southwest of Germany. It´s a very small but historical city with an old castle and wall remains in its inner city. It was a great place to grow up, because I had both city life and nature nearby as well as the opportunity to explore a lot of sports. Now I´m 24 years old, sporty and have work experience in different areas. After I did my A-level, I worked as a volunteer in an ambulance team for a year. After I finished that, I decided to move to Berlin, the capital city of Germany, and started my study. I´m studying Finance Management in Berlin and am in my last semester. During my study, I have worked in an institute and learned practical experience. While participating in a seminar,...

Roman’s Marketing Gi2C China Internship Review

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150414-080611_1.png I'm from Kirovograd; it's in the Ukraine. It is a nice place to grow up because it's really unique, safe and has a clean environment and beautiful parks. It also has charming historical buildings, great masterpieces of architecture, and the first Ukrainian professional theater.  I'm 21 years old and every minute of my life, I try to do interesting and colorful things. I am an open person and up for any challenge, physically or mentally. I am good at tennis because I started my tennis career when I was a child. I also like snowboarding.  I studied in Barcelona, Spain and London, England. My majors were marketing communication, digital marketing and PR. I have chosen these areas because they are fast developing and require new, innovative thinking every day. In these fields, there are always more things to learn and techniques to practice. I am interning at an international operating...

Brett’s China Internship in Property Investment

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150323-134518_1.png I am from Gold Coast, the tourism capital of Australia.  It is quite different growing up in a place where people are always coming and going.  It is also different living in a city that is neither a business district, nor a surf town, but somewhere in between.  I am 35 years old and something interesting I’ve done so far in my life is that I have lived within a tribal village in Thailand for a number of weeks and also visited a number of similar villages during my 6 trips to Thailand.  Tribal food can be quite different.  Consequently, I have eaten monkey, locusts, bees, ants, goat, and nearly every part of the chicken. I am interning at a property investment company.  I studied International Business with a major in International Management so this internship is in line with my business background.  I chose international management because I am...

From Japan to China, Erika interns at a start-up

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150311-062329_1.png I’m from Tokyo, Japan. I was born and grew up in Niigata prefecture, which is considered the countryside in Japan. My parents raised me to develop my curiosity and to not be afraid of a challenge. They never ever said “no” to what I tried to do (unless it was illegal, might hurt the others or was immoral).  Looking back on my life, I have experiences of failures, but I don’t have any regrets that I didn’t do something because my parents said no.  I have just turned 22. My life is somehow strongly connected with social innovation and overseas. After I entered university 4 years ago, I was working for the biggest worldwide student organization called AIESEC for 3 years. I supported Japanese university students who are willing to do their internship overseas by consulting and developing our products. I learned how much making an impact on each person...

Olli from Finland starts an internship in China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1.jpeg  “I am 32 and from Kuopio, Finland. What is unique about my hometown? Well, a certain well-known figure, Santa Claus, is from Finland and we have a very strong sauna culture.  Something interesting I’ve done so far in life is make a documentary of Iceland. In terms of my educational background, I studied International business in both Finland and Australia. While in school, I wanted to work at an embassy but later on in my career, when I actually did, I didn’t like it.  I will be interning at a virtual currency, trade and commerce company.  Although I don’t know what kind of work I’ll be doing exactly, I hope to learn some transferrable skills and meet new people.  I chose China because this country seems to be a major hotspot. I randomly found Gi2C and was interested to learn more about this country that was rich in culture. I’m...

Anna from Poland interns in China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150217-112715_1.jpg Originally, I am from Poland but I’ve lived for the last 8 years in Bristol, England.   Something interesting about my hometown is that we have a fortress, which is several times bigger than the Tower of London. I am 28 and used to work in a classified documents office. For my personal achievements, I hitchhiked 1200km in Poland and bungee jumped from 56 meters. I have a master’s degree in Sociology with a focus on social communication and market research. In Poland, a master’s degree is considered basic education. I am not very good at math and in my country it means that you will have great difficulty to find a good paying job, so I thought focusing on market research might increase my chances in the job market. I’m interning at a Chinese company which is building cryptocurrency platforms. (Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency.) This company combines social...

Meet Gherardo! New Gi2C Finance Intern from Italy.

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1.png Gherardo grew up in a small Italian town with a huge reputation. Cortina d’Ampezzo, which is known for its beautiful mountains, is also touted for being a “winter sports mecca”. As a result, 23-year-old Gherardo loves to ski and mountain bike among other active winter and summer sports. Sadly, China is not known for being a ski destination so Gherardo will have to give up his favorite activity during his internship. However, China is infamous for other activities such as ping-pong so now might just be the perfect time to learn some new sports! He studied business and economics because of the large number of opportunities that this major provides. Fluent in Italian and English, Gherardo is also learning German. However, he probably won’t be adding in Mandarin at this point in time as learning more than one language at once is quite confusing.  Many China interns from around the...

Although Shrey is only in his early twenties, he has already traveled all over Europe as well as Thailand. He received his MBA in the U.K. and has a strong interest in business. Michael’s internship in Shanghai, China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image002_20141212-064404_1.jpg Michael is from Copenhagen, Denmark, which is unique for its paid education, snowy winter, and the Little Mermaid in Tivoli. Those of us with school loans are suddenly thinking about moving to Denmark, right? Some interesting things he has done in the past 26 years have been sky diving, bungee jumping, and getting a master’s degree in Sydney, Australia. Michael is clearly not afraid of trying new things and adventure! Those two qualities are exactly what all new visitors to China need to have. He has a bachelor’s in Business Engineering and undertook an MBA to challenge himself and learn English. Michael is interning in the consulting industry in Shanghai and hopes to learn as much as possible about working in a professional company as well as working in a different country and culture. As with many of our Gi2C interns, Michael hopes to make a good impression on the company...

Why China for a Business Internship?

b2ap3_thumbnail_image001_20141015-134152_1.jpg I am 25 years old from San Francisco, California. Something unique about the growing up in San Francisco is that I was constantly surrounded by people from many different cultures. This helped me get used to cultures different from my own. Being a youth leader at my church since the age of 17 helped me learn other useful business skills such as patience and how to manage groups of people. I studied at San Francisco State University and graduated from there with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in International Business. I chose this area because learning about different cultures and how to work in different countries was an idea that excited me. I will be interning at an international finance company located in Beijing. I will be working in sales, developing and communicating with people in the US. We will also assist customers through phone, email or...

Gavin’s Finance Internship In Beijing, China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image001_20140929-130436_1.jpg Gavin R. was born in a small town in Northern Ireland called Holywood. He just so happen to go to primary and secondary school with the world’s number one golfer, Rory McIlroy, so his claim to fame is playing golf on the same course as Rory! Tell us a little about yourself, Gavin. “I am 21 years old and recently I took part in a charity hitchhike with my university from Durham in the North of England to Amsterdam in Holland. I was in a team of three and we managed to hitch hike in people’s cars the whole way there for free in less than 30 hours. We were the quickest team and one of the only teams to spend no money on travel so it was a huge success and a lot of fun. I am currently studying Economics in the UK. I am entering my third and...

My Beijing Internship Experience with Gi2C

b2ap3_thumbnail_image001_20140926-091620_1.pngTamara is beginning her Gi2C China internship program in Beijing and we had the pleasure of hearing her story.   I grew up in a small town pretty much in the countryside. The closest large, well-known city is Zurich, which is about 30 minutes away. Switzerland is infamous for our cheese and chocolate and I guess that's what foreign people identify Switzerland with and of course having great banks! I am 22 years old and something interesting about myself is that I have won the Swiss championship in Badminton when I was 13. Other than badminton, I also love travelling a lot. I am currently working on my Bachelor's degree in Business Communications. I chose to study this field because I like to learn languages and I think one of the most essential departments in an industry is the communications department as it represents the company. I will be working at the...
