Gi2C China Internship Review: Meet Marketing Intern Karen

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150629-130832_1.jpeg
I’m from Auckland, New Zealand. A unique fact about New Zealand is that we have more sheep than people – about 2 per person. I’m 20 years old and something fun I’ve done so far in my life is visit Hobbiton and while I was there, all my friends said I was home (because I’m not the tallest person in the world). I studied in the USA and was an Economics & Music major because both areas interested me. Here in China, I will be a marketing intern at a software company that focuses on cloud services. During my time in China, I hope to build connections, gain experience and become more familiar with Chinese culture and how foreigners work in China. I chose to intern in China because I’ve interned in many different cities in the USA. However, I wanted to come back to China where I’m originally from...

Gi2C Internship Review: Amy’s Interior Design Internship in China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150623-111751_1.jpeg
I grew up in Australia, specifically Adelaide which is the wine capital of Australia. One unique thing about Australia is that our holiday season (Xmas and New Year) is always the hottest time of year. I’m currently 26 and something fun I’ve done so far in my life is to be part of the 2012 Olympics in London. I majored in Interior Decoration and Design in school. I chose that degree because I wanted to do something I enjoy and get paid for it. I’m excited to work for a firm that I can learn from and grow with – a firm interested in design and the people they design for. For my China internship, the company I am interning at is focused on retail design. I will be primarily drawing and handling paperwork. What I want most out of my internship is to learn and to have fun. I...

To Gi2C: This program has changed my life forever.

b2ap3_thumbnail_10290626_10203906417241716_6394170953806264268_n.jpg
To the Chinese Workforce: I have never worked so hard with such tight deadlines in my life. Because of you, I have a different standard for working when I come back to America. I am not at all saying that Americans are lazy, I am just saying that we do not work as hard/much nor get paid as little.   To the other foreigners in China: Thank you for making the culture shock a bit easier. I have such a sense of joy being around people of different nationalities. I have gained culture from you all as well. Just to name a few of my favorites, Bahar (Turkey), Racheal (England) , Micheal (American), Vitaly (Ukraininan and I hate you still haha), Winnie (Chinese), Mitch (Austrailian), Matt (English), Victor (Spanish) and AnnaBelle (Dutch) these plus the many more that I have met and became the best of friends the same night....

Gi2C Review: New Intern Vittorio begins his Gi2C China Internship

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150611-101935_1.jpeg
Born in Avellino, Italy, I moved to Scotland at the age of 19 after completing high school to pursue my ambition of becoming proficient in the English language while living in a country whose history and heritage had always fascinated me. Gi2C comment: Congrats on achieving your goal, Vittorio! Your English is excellent. I am 24 years old and a few years ago, I met a group of people working for a charity that operates in Cuzco. I became involved in their activities, mainly producing crafts to be sold in markets in Italy, the revenues of which went to children in rural areas of the Peruvian Andes.  I then decided to travel to Peru and I was able to continue my charity work once I got to Cuzco, where I taught English to schoolchildren every afternoon for a month. Living in Aberdeen, the oil capital of Europe and being exposed...

Jana’s Gi2C Internship in Shanghai, China

b2ap3_thumbnail_jana00.jpg
My hometown is Bratislava, Slovakia. Bratislava is the capital of a small country in the middle of Europe with rich history and customs. People there are friendly and caring. I’m 25 and have been involved in sports my whole life. I played basketball for 10 years and also took karate. I’m now playing a sport called floorball. I studied international finance management in Slovakia and Germany. I just graduated in February of this year. I chose to study this area because I wanted to know about finance and management and this major was a great opportunity to study both. My Gi2C arranged China internship is working for a company that focuses on finance, tax, accounting, financial counseling and auditing. The company’s service portfolio is huge, but I should be concentrating on primarily taxes and accounting. I’m looking forward to learning other areas during my internship as well. I want to...

New Gi2C Intern, Henry, begins his China internship

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150516-091756_1.jpeg
I am from York in the north of England. York is unusual in the UK because it is incredibly ancient. It is of strategic importance because it is halfway between London and Scotland. It has a castle with complete walls all the way around the city that are 2000 years old. I’m 24 years old and something cool I have done in my life so far is to live in South Africa and train elephants. I went to school in London and studied microbiology and business management. Science is fascinating to me as I’m a very curious person. I will be interning at a finance company that focuses on wealth management. I excited to learn more about Asia business culture. China was my go-to internship destination because it is a superpower and will become even more relevant. China is big and busy. That’s the best way to describe it. I...

Rafael from Brazil about his Gi2C Internship

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150512-055104_1.jpeg
I’m from Belo Horizonte , Brazil.  One unique thing about Brazil is the great weather during the entire year and also the kind way that people treat each other, especially foreigners.  I’m 22 and have lived in Canada during high school and France for one semester during university. I studied International Affairs in Brazil and chose this area due to my huge interest in other cultures and passion to go abroad. I will be interning at a pharmaceutical company which operates mostly in developing countries. Their main products are vaccines and medicines.  They are currently looking for partners around the world and working with local governments. I will be focused on export documentation and international marketing tasks such as finding new markets and making sure the products are in accordance with local laws.  My goal for this internship is to gain more experience in international trade and increase my network...

I’m from DR Congo, Kolwezi city. It’s a small town so people are united and it’s kind of quiet which is why I appreciate it even more. I’m currently majoring in Civil Engineering and Management at Jiangsu University here in China. I chose China for my education because it is a country that is currently excelling in Civil Engineering and in construction. New Gi2C Intern Review: Jendrik’s China Internship in Finance

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150501-093626_1.jpeg
I´m from Ellwangen, a city next to Stuttgart, the capital city of Baden-Württemberg. Ellwangen is located in one federal state in the southwest of Germany. It´s a very small but historical city with an old castle and wall remains in its inner city. It was a great place to grow up, because I had both city life and nature nearby as well as the opportunity to explore a lot of sports. Now I´m 24 years old, sporty and have work experience in different areas. After I did my A-level, I worked as a volunteer in an ambulance team for a year. After I finished that, I decided to move to Berlin, the capital city of Germany, and started my study. I´m studying Finance Management in Berlin and am in my last semester. During my study, I have worked in an institute and learned practical experience. While participating in a seminar,...

New Gi2C Intern Review: Shanen from Indonesia starts Interning in China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150423-061313_1.jpeg
I’m originally from Indonesia, but I went to a Canadian university in Toronto. Something unique about Toronto would be its harsh icy winter that can get as low as –38 degrees Celsius! I am 20 years old, going on 21 this year. I’ve lived half of my life all by myself studying abroad in Singapore and Canada, so I’ve been exposed to different cultures and all sorts of languages! That being said, it has made me more flexible and easily adaptable which is always a bonus when working abroad in a totally new place, which in my case, is China. I studied Finance in Toronto and I find that it’s such a fun and dynamic subject of studies and we just suit each other. I am interning at an investment and financial advisory firm that focuses on AU, NZ and China business relationships such as investments, market entry, etc. The...

Roman’s Marketing Gi2C China Internship Review

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150414-080611_1.png
I'm from Kirovograd; it's in the Ukraine. It is a nice place to grow up because it's really unique, safe and has a clean environment and beautiful parks. It also has charming historical buildings, great masterpieces of architecture, and the first Ukrainian professional theater.  I'm 21 years old and every minute of my life, I try to do interesting and colorful things. I am an open person and up for any challenge, physically or mentally. I am good at tennis because I started my tennis career when I was a child. I also like snowboarding.  I studied in Barcelona, Spain and London, England. My majors were marketing communication, digital marketing and PR. I have chosen these areas because they are fast developing and require new, innovative thinking every day. In these fields, there are always more things to learn and techniques to practice. I am interning at an international operating...

Gi2C Reviews: Chira’s China Internship at a Startup

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150410-204820_1.jpeg
I’m originally from Nashville, TN USA. I grew up in Music City USA, so I was spoiled by living in a city full of musicians. Half of my friends were somehow involved with music. In terms of my background, I’m 32 and decided I wanted to get some international experience. I’ve had jobs in the design, tech, and marketing fields. So far, going to China beats anything I’ve done yet but some interesting things I’ve done in my life is traveling abroad and studying Italian in Italy. In school, I studied Advertising and Graphic Design. I have two degrees:  B.S Communications and B.F.A Graphic Design. I enjoy the mix between creative work, research, and marketing. I like to keep my interests broad. I will be interning with a US-based startup company that has an office in Beijing. They build apps and in-apps designed to market companies from the US to...

Gi2C Reviews: Piero from Peru Pursues a Consulting Internship in China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150406-111936_1.png
I am from Lima, Peru. I spent my childhood in my home country and then moved to the United States when I was 14 years old. By then I had experienced a substantial amount of culture that changed my way of looking at the world and my overall personality for the better. After I started living the cosmopolitan city of Miami, I began to become interested in learning foreign languages, traveling with more frequency and learning about other cultures. I am 22 years old and something interesting I’ve done so far in my life is that I acted in the Latin TV show called Sabado Gigante for a couple of months when I used to live in Miami. I also have backpacked all over Western Europe, as well as within the U.S. and this is my second time coming to China. I have a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and...

Brett’s China Internship in Property Investment

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150323-134518_1.png
I am from Gold Coast, the tourism capital of Australia.  It is quite different growing up in a place where people are always coming and going.  It is also different living in a city that is neither a business district, nor a surf town, but somewhere in between.  I am 35 years old and something interesting I’ve done so far in my life is that I have lived within a tribal village in Thailand for a number of weeks and also visited a number of similar villages during my 6 trips to Thailand.  Tribal food can be quite different.  Consequently, I have eaten monkey, locusts, bees, ants, goat, and nearly every part of the chicken. I am interning at a property investment company.  I studied International Business with a major in International Management so this internship is in line with my business background.  I chose international management because I am...

From Japan to China, Erika interns at a start-up

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150311-062329_1.png
I’m from Tokyo, Japan. I was born and grew up in Niigata prefecture, which is considered the countryside in Japan. My parents raised me to develop my curiosity and to not be afraid of a challenge. They never ever said “no” to what I tried to do (unless it was illegal, might hurt the others or was immoral).  Looking back on my life, I have experiences of failures, but I don’t have any regrets that I didn’t do something because my parents said no.  I have just turned 22. My life is somehow strongly connected with social innovation and overseas. After I entered university 4 years ago, I was working for the biggest worldwide student organization called AIESEC for 3 years. I supported Japanese university students who are willing to do their internship overseas by consulting and developing our products. I learned how much making an impact on each person...

Olli from Finland starts an internship in China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1.jpeg
“I am 32 and from Kuopio, Finland. What is unique about my hometown? Well, a certain well-known figure, Santa Claus, is from Finland and we have a very strong sauna culture.  Something interesting I’ve done so far in life is make a documentary of Iceland. In terms of my educational background, I studied International business in both Finland and Australia. While in school, I wanted to work at an embassy but later on in my career, when I actually did, I didn’t like it.  I will be interning at a virtual currency, trade and commerce company.  Although I don’t know what kind of work I’ll be doing exactly, I hope to learn some transferrable skills and meet new people.  I chose China because this country seems to be a major hotspot. I randomly found Gi2C and was interested to learn more about this country that was rich in culture....

Anna from Poland interns in China

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150217-112715_1.jpg
Originally, I am from Poland but I’ve lived for the last 8 years in Bristol, England.   Something interesting about my hometown is that we have a fortress, which is several times bigger than the Tower of London. I am 28 and used to work in a classified documents office. For my personal achievements, I hitchhiked 1200km in Poland and bungee jumped from 56 meters. I have a master’s degree in Sociology with a focus on social communication and market research. In Poland, a master’s degree is considered basic education. I am not very good at math and in my country it means that you will have great difficulty to find a good paying job, so I thought focusing on market research might increase my chances in the job market. I’m interning at a Chinese company which is building cryptocurrency platforms. (Bitcoin was the first cryptocurrency.) This company combines social...

QY’s Gi2C Internship

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1.jpg
I am from Shenzhen in the south of China.  It is a young coastal city full of people coming from different places. I guess growing up in a culturally diversified place teaches you how to understand differences. People are more open in this type of environment and I am glad that I grew up with that kind of influence around me. I am 23 years old and the most interesting thing I’ve done so far in my life is travelling and studying in different places around the world. I’ve been able to see different cultures and to complete my academics. This international experience has always been very exciting to me. I was most recently studying in Australia and majoring in economics and finance. The reason why I chose this area was because, these days, they are hot topics and I did not know much about them.  I am interested in...

Amy From Australia Interns in the Real Estate and Investment Industry

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1_20150209-082829_1.png
I am from Adelaide, South Australia. Adelaide is a small city in Australia and is renowned as: ‘The Festival City’ for the many festivals and events that are held there and ‘The City of Churches’ for the large array of old, new and in between churches to celebrate the multicultural society.  I am 25 and have just spent 6.5 weeks backpacking throughout Europe and the UK. My highlight was visiting Reykjavik, Iceland which allowed me the chance to ride a five gaited Icelandic purebred horse (also my first time on a horse), climb ice glaciers and experience one of the most spectacular places on earth. I have completed a double business degree of a Bachelor of Management Marketing and a Bachelor of Tourism and Event Management. In my 3.5 year Gap year between High School and University, I worked as Wedding Coordinator at a country club, this gave me a...

Meet Gherardo! New Gi2C Finance Intern from Italy.

b2ap3_thumbnail_image1.png
Gherardo grew up in a small Italian town with a huge reputation. Cortina d’Ampezzo , which is known for its beautiful mountains, is also touted for being a “winter sports mecca”. As a result, 23-year-old Gherardo loves to ski and mountain bike among other active winter and summer sports. Sadly, China is not known for being a ski destination so Gherardo will have to give up his favorite activity during his internship. However, China is infamous for other activities such as ping-pong so now might just be the perfect time to learn some new sports! He studied business and economics because of the large number of opportunities that this major provides. Fluent in Italian and English, Gherardo is also learning German. However, he probably won’t be adding in Mandarin at this point in time as learning more than one language at once is quite confusing.  Many China interns from around...
