Why intern in China? There’s a lot going on that’s why. The economy is booming and China continues to open up to foreigners. This section of the blog focuses on what opportunities are available in China and our visits to potential colleges to let students better understand China before coming to start their Chinese internships.

International Media Coverage of China

ImageEarlier, we wrote a blog post listing some of the top local news sources in China you might want to keep an eye on to get a sense of what's happening in the country. At Get in2 China we feel being up-to-date on the latest news in China is a great way to get the most out of your internship program in China and your time in the country. Given that China is, well, China, it's only naturally that major international news organizations have carved out a presence here. The Middle Kingdom's social, cultural and economic development have seized the attention of news organizations around the world. China used to fall under the 'Asia' banner on news sites. Not anymore. For many of the news organizations below, China is a separate section all on its own. Below, we've listed some of the international news media with a decided focus on China. Wall Street Journal - China Real Time. Unfortunately, the Wall...

"Go East, Young Man"

goeastyoungmanChina Daily, an English language newspaper in China, recently featured an article from Erik Nilsson and Thomas Hale titled, "Go Easy, Young Man." China Daily - "Go East, Young Man" The article, published nearly one year after  the New York Times published an identically titled article, discusses the growing trend of young Westerners heading to China for adventure and opportunity. As the article quips, "They come for the adventure. They stay for the jobs." Human Resource professionals agree that gaining work experience in China is a smart tactic for Westerners. Professional work experience in China may prove not only meaningful but also marketable when you return home. The China Daily article featured stories from a handful of young professionals living and working in China, lured to the East by a promising economic environment and a sense of mysticism. This is certainly not the first time in history that young people have been drawn to economically prosperous regions, in-fact it happens...

On Tour: Los Angeles, California

We saw a NASA space shuttle! In our last On Tour post, we were hanging with the Banana Slugs at UC Santa Cruz. After departing from beautiful Santa Cruz, we headed south on California's famously scenic Highway 1 and rode the coast all the way to the City of Angels. Widely considered as one of the best road-trips in the entire world, the Pacific Coast Highway was breathtaking! Along the way we stopped for plenty of photo ops, played in the ocean, and even got to see some more sea lions! Check out our photo gallery from the drive below: Eventually we arrived in Los Angeles and would end up staying there for a total of ten days. During our time in LA, we visited a number of great Universities including: California State Los Angeles   University of California at Riverside   California State Fullerton   California State Long Beach   University of California at Irvine We...

On Tour: UC Santa Cruz (Go Banana Slugs!)

October 5th, 2012: UC Santa Cruz Fall Study Abroad Fair Leading up to this event, we had heard rumors that the campus of UC Santa Cruz is actually located inside a Redwood Forest. When we arrived on campus, not only were the rumors confirmed, but we also found UC Santa Cruz to be a favorite in the nation's 'Best College Mascot/Team Name' Contest... University of California at Santa Cruz Banana Slugs. Roshni, Yuri, and Ben approvingly bought t-shirts from the bookstore to blend in with the other Banana Slugs. So I knew that we would have an interesting day, but never did a imagine that the Student Union would resemble a log cabin. The city of Santa Cruz is known for having laid-back, even slightly eccentric, locals. It is also known for being a gorgeous, and fun, coastal beach town. Redwood forests colliding with coastal beaches, the students at UCSC have...

On Tour: University of California at Davis

October 4th, 2012 - UC Davis Study and Intern Abroad Fair "Wow." That's all we can say. University of California at Davis completely blew us away. Never in my life have I seen a more active and engaged student populace. I am an alumni of one of the largest - and what I consider one of the liveliest - Universities in the U.S., The Ohio State University. Our community of 60,000+ students in Columbus tend to be pretty involved, but the level of involvement and overall energy on the campus of UC Davis was on an entirely different level. As we were still in the midst of this California heat wave, things really heated up during the early afternoon. Outside in the main Quad, students were buzzing to and from class on bicycles, scooters, longboards, skateboards, roller blades, and other modes of transportation. There was a food truck dishing out free...
