China Intern Testimonial: Hira Iqbal
Twenty-four year old Hira hails from Mississauga, Canada and graduated from Seneca College of Applied Arts and Technology majoring in Business Administration, Human Resources. She will be interning at a Shanghai
electronic technology company and in charge of maintaining good relations with customers, working with the team to develop new markets, negotiating pricing with customers, etc. Hira hopes this Shanghai internship
will give her solid work experience by working in the real world as well as provide her with professional references and networking contacts. In China, it's all about the contacts and guanxi!Hira was drawn to do an internship in China
after reading about China's booming economy and the opportunities available in China
. Some people say that China is one of the few places hiring in today's tough economic environment. Hira also has some family members who do business in China which allowed her to better understand what living and working in China
would be like.Hira told us, "I came across Gi2C
through an expo I visited a year ago and thought this could get me one step closer to experiencing the Chinese culture and one of the biggest economic powers in the world. Gi2C
offers a good service that gives interns the freedom to discover China
on their own and allows them to tailor their experience."
Hira said her family was very supportive of her decision, although slightly nervous about her move China. Yet they told her it was a good opportunity and a once in a life time experience. Hira said, "When I told my friends they were jealous and wished they could go to! I am obviously going to miss my family and friends and since it's winter in Canada, I am going to miss my car. It is so convenient to drive everywhere in this cold weather."
Don't worry, Hira, the metro in Shanghai
is very convenient to use and quite warm in the winter!
